West Cork Vintage Ploughing & Threshing Association were formed in 2010 and held a very successful open day on Sunday 12th September, 2010 at Ashgrove, Clonakilty on the lands of David & Marjorie McCarthy. While the main attraction centred on a vintage ploughing match the programme also included a large display of vintage tractors and an old-time threashing display. A sum of €5,000 was donated Mount Carmel Hospital from the proceeds of the day.
A similiar event was held in Ballinglanna in 2011 on the lands of John Wolf. New events added to the programme included silage cutting and cutting corn with old combines. A total of €6,000 was donated to three local charities: €2,000 to Marymount Hospice, €2,000 to COPE and €2,000 to Mt Carmel Daycare Centre.
In 2012 the event was held on the lands of Michael and Mary Ryan at Pedlar's Cross on Sunday 9th September and was a huge success. €6,000 was donated to two local charities: €3,000 to COPE and €3,000 to CoAction.
In 2013 the event moved to Colin Bateman's land in Timoleague. A good event was held although rain affected the attendance. The helicopter rides proved to be a great new attraction. A sum of €2,600 was donated to local causes: €1,500 to RNLI Courtmacsherry, €800 to Clonakilty Community Care meals on wheels.
Another great event was held in 2014 on the land of John Sutton which included a celebration of the 75th anniversary of David Brown as well as all the other normal activities. A total of €8000 was presented to 2 local charities: jeep for Jason and Clonakilty Community Care.
In 2015 the event was held on the land of Vivan Buttimer and this time the theme was the Ford heritage event as it was held on the ancestral site of Henry Ford's people. A great event was planed but unfortunately the organisers had very hard luck with weather and had cancel the first Sunday and held the event following Sunday which was even worse. We were very lucky with the support we got from people on a really bad day and ended up presenting a total of €7000to 2 charities: i.e. Cancer Connect and Rapid Response €3500 each,
In total West Cork Ploughing & Threshing have presented €34,800 to charities in the past 6 years.
In 2016 we headed to the lands of the Wolf family in Argehane.Where we celebrated 50 years of John Deere in Ireland. With a large silage demo through the ages. A total of 10,000 was raised for 3 local charities Autism unit in Kilbrittan N.S, Aspect and autism unit in Gaelscoil Clonakilty. Each getting 3,333.3.
In 2017 we headed by back to the Buttimer family in Crohane for our biggest event yet The ford Fest. It was a spectacular event held on the ansetral ford farm celebrating 100 years of Ford in Ireland. The event raised 30,000 going to 4 charities Temple Street Children's, Hospital, Rapid Response, Cancer Connect and the Saorsie unit in Clonakilty Hospital,each getting 7,250.
